Call For Information On Teaching Evidence-Based Mental Health Practices

The Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research (IASWR) has received a contract from the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to undertake a project entitled Partnerships to Integrate Evidence-Based Treatments into Social Work Training. The project will:

  • Develop an overview of evidence-based resources applicable to social work practices in mental health;
  • Scan states and social work education programs to identify current projects underway that might serve as a model to other schools;
  • Work with NIMH to convene a small invitational meeting of representatives of social work education, practice and research organizations, SAMHSA and other experts on curriculum development and EBP; and
  • Develop a report of the proceedings and outcomes.

The IASWR is reaching out to social work education programs to complete a scan of current efforts to incorporate evidence-based practices in mental health into the social work curricula and/or to train practitioners in evidence-based services.

Please email IASWR Executive Director, Joan Levy Zlotnik at jlziaswr@naswdc.org  with information about efforts that might be underway to teach evidence-based mental health treatments, or if you are involved in collaborations with state and/or local mental health agencies around evidence-based curriculum enhancements.  If possible please provide syllabi or URL links to resources and information.  All materials received will be appropriately acknowledged. Please contact Dr. Zlotnik via email if you have questions or need additional information.
